What is a Skills Bootcamp? 

A Skills Bootcamp is a short, intensive, and government-funded training programme designed to help you build sector-specific skills that lead to real jobs. Barfection, in partnership with Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, proudly delivers Rise & Grind—a barista-focused bootcamp designed to brew fresh opportunities in the café and coffee service industry.

About the Rise & Grind Skills Bootcamp
Rise & Grind is a Level 2 Barista Bootcamp, perfect for those ready to enter the hospitality world or move into barista roles within cafés, coffee shops, hotels, and food-led venues. It’s hands-on, employer-led, and designed for job success.
You’ll gain skills in:

• Barista service and hot drink preparation
• Customer experience and problem-solving
• Teamworking and shift efficiency
• Promoting products and upselling
• ​Working safely and hygienically in hospitality environments

With practical barista workshops and real work placements, this course is all about giving you certified skills and coffee confidence.
Course Highlights

• Level: 2 (City & Guilds accredited)
  
• Duration: 16 weeks (part-time)
  
• Schedule: 3 days per week (daytime sessions)
  
• Location: In-person delivery at our Liverpool City Centre training hub
  
• Total Learning Hours: 123 (91 hours tutor-led)

Who is it for?

This Skills Bootcamp is open to individuals aged 19+, who are:

• Unemployed and looking to break into hospitality
• New to the industry and ready to start their barista journey
• In part-time or entry-level roles seeking more stable or advanced work

There are no qualification requirements, just a great attitude, enthusiasm for customer service, and a basic grasp of English (Level 1 or above).

What You’ll Learn

The programme is a blend of accredited learning and employer-led practical sessions, designed to prepare you for a real job in coffee or café service.

Accredited Qualification: City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Hospitality and Catering Principles (Beverage Service)
Qualification Code: 600/0848/9

You’ll cover essential hospitality and bar service units such as:

• Working hygienically and safely
• Customer service in hospitality
• Preparing and serving hot drinks using specialist equipment
• Upselling products and resolving customer queries
• Working in a team and giving great first impressions

Hands-On Practical Training (non-accredited):

• Espresso machine use and maintenance
• Grinder calibration and milk steaming
• Drink presentation and customer interaction
• Order-taking, upselling and efficient workflows

Plus:

• A guaranteed 32-hour work placement with a local café or hospitality employer
• CV and interview support, mock interviews, and industry guest talks

The goal is to move you into a job or more secure, higher-quality work.

Read Oliver's Story

Oliver is a great example of how Barfection’s Bootcamps can build real career momentum. He first joined us on a Bartender Traineeship, where he gained hands-on experience in hospitality fundamentals. Recognising his passion for customer service and drink creation, Oliver then enrolled in our barista academy, where he mastered the art of great coffee.
