Read Iliana's Story
The popular local spot, Pot Kettle Black (PKB), is well-known not only for its great coffee but also for its effective partnership with the Skills Bootcamp programme, a joint venture between Greater Manchester Combined Authority and Barfection. This programme is really making a difference, helping aspiring individuals like Iliana Ruseva move from being job seekers to becoming skilled workers in hospitality.
When Iliana first stepped through PKB's doors, nerves were her constant companion. But under the café's nurturing care, her confidence has blossomed remarkably. "We’ve given Iliana the confidence that she is really good," shares Sian, the general manager from PKB, reflecting on her initial jitters. "She was nervous at first but she’s excellent and has grown into the role," she adds, clearly proud of Iliana’s transformation. Exploring why PKB plunged into the Skills Bootcamp, Sian explains, "To give the new generation a chance in hospitality." It’s all about crafting the perfect blend of opportunity and expert guidance. And the reason for becoming a recruitment partner? Sian spells it out: “Because you help us find people who genuinely want to do this job, and that’s far better than just picking random people from job sites like Indeed.” The influx of fresh talent at PKB has been transformative. "With our staffing levels, when the learners are in, they really help us out and do well,” Sian points out. The collaboration with the Skills Bootcamp has strengthened PKB’s staffing strategy, ensuring that every cup and customer interaction is steeped in success. |
