Springboard Barista Training Day
We invited Springboard and a group of their trainees along to our HQ in Liverpool for a full day barista experience. They had a rounded introduction to the coffee industry which included cupping coffee, understanding different brewing methods, making milk-based drinks, developing teamwork and then they went on to design their own coffee shop logos! It was great to see such creativity on the day, and it was a roaring success all round. When asked how they found the day, Tom from Springboard said: ’Last Wednesday was fantastic! Sean and Patrick did an amazing job at not only showing the trainees the relevant barista skills but also did a great job at engaging them and getting them excited about the industry. I think it was really helpful and at least three of them are now pursuing coffee as their main job role’. It was fantastic to see the learners engaged in all the activities and the Barfection team were delighted to have been a part of the day. Springboard is a sector-specific employability charity offering a suite of employability programmes to support young people to overcome barriers, improve their skills and gain employment. An integral element of Springboard’s support is the engagement with employers and the workplace, through industry visits, careers talks and interview preparation. These activities are facilitated by Springboard and delivered by their ambassadors. These are people working in all levels of the industry that are trained by Springboard to engage with participants, promote the industry and their business as a great place to work. They help identify potential talent, mentor participants and recruit for their current vacancies. After such a triumphant day, we are looking to develop our colloboration with further projects, including a cocktail training day. We look forward to working with Springboard more closely over the coming months. A massive thanks to our coffee suppliers, Adams and Russell, and to Monkeyboard for their ongoing support and for supplying us with coffee and equipment on the day.
